Transcendentalism

Lecture Response #3

Starting at the short story unit Professor Brady started talking about transcendentalism. Before then I had never heard the word, and let alone knew what it meant. Within a few days of the short story unit I understood what it was. Transcendentalism is more then just a point of view, or a kind of writing, its a life style. Its being one with nature, on a deep level. In class we discussed how in today's society it is hard to be a 100% transcendentalist. When this concept first came out in the early 1800s people who move out urban areas and ostracizes themselves in the forest so they could be one with nature. This would be difficult for someone in today's time especially if they have children. Although 100% is difficult a person could be a partial transcendentalist, by finding sometime within there busy life to be one with nature. A person could do this by going to the park, the beach, planting a garden, etc. In todays society people spend to much time inside, a transcendentalist attitude helps a person relax. It never hurts to take some times and smell the roses.
